WORKSHOP – (Co)Designing for Quality of Life in Middle-Class Mass Housing: Exploring Challenges & Opportunities

The Stakeholders Workshop (Co)Designing for Quality of Life in Middle-Class Mass Housing: Exploring Challenges & Opportunities” aims to explore the challenges and opportunities for improving quality of life and sustainability in Middle-Class Mass Housing complexes through engagement and collaboration with local stakeholders. The case-study site is Umitkent Sitesi, Umitkoy, Cayyolu, in Ankara, Turkey.

This 3-day event brings together local and international urban researchers, students, and residents and will combine site visits, workshops, and presentations.

The Workshop is organized as part of a COST Action CA18137 “Middle-Class Mass Housing (MCMH), and Middle East Technical University hosts it in Ankara, Turkey. The organizing and coordination team includes Dr Müge Akkar Ercan (Middle East Technical University), Dr Juliana Martins (University College London) and Research Assistant Irem Duygu Tiryaki (Middle East Technical University).

Notes

1. We will provide the following data and the stationary materials:
• Digital and hard copy maps of the site and its surroundings
• Sketch papers
• Broad markers with different colours
• Flipchart papers
• Post-its
• Blue tags, bands It might be good to have your sketchbooks and computers with you, too!
Please let us know if you need any other information and materials for the Workshop.

2. As the Workshop will also cover the weekend, the printing service in the FoA is closed.
So, we suggest making the final presentations in digital forms (pdf or ppt). However, if you prepare some posters, we can print them later and make an exhibition in the faculty building.

3. METU Campus is very accessible by metro, minibus and bus.
At the three gates of the university, there are security checkpoints where the security guards ask you for your ID. We will inform the university’s gates beforehand so that you will not experience any problem entering the campus on the first day. Once you receive your badges, you can also show your badge to enter the university. (Please see the detailed information in the Information Pack)

4. There are continuous walking paths from the university’s gates to the FoA.
But, if you like to take a taxi, it will charge you 20-30 TL (around €2). (Please see the detailed information in the Information Pack)

5. For 1-2 October 2022, the entrance of the FoA building will be from the car-parking site.
